I’m sure everyone has seen a type of bag in supermarkets that can stand and be placed on shelves, both beautiful and practical. It can catch everyone’s attention at a glance, and even stand out among other products through its unique design.

They are stand up pouches.

What is the Process of Making a Stand Up Pouch that Suits Your Product?

Today, we will talk about it.

Step 1: Determine Which Types of Stand Up Pouches We Need.

Stand up pouches are divided into upright and irregular self-supporting bags. The upright self-supporting bag is the bag used by most merchants on the market. Its front is a rectangular shape of different sizes, sometimes with a hollow design, allowing customers to see the contents of the bag at a glance.

There are many styles of shaped stand up pouches, and most merchants will design them based on the characteristics of the product. For example, one of our clients sells chestnuts, and they will design a chestnut-shaped stand up pouch so that consumers can see their product from a distance, as shown in the following picture.

What are the differences between these two? The vertical stand up pouch uses universal molds, so the processing cost will be lower than that of a shaped stand up pouch due to the customization of molds for heating and cutting.

Step 2: Determine the Size of the Bottom

In addition to its ability to stand, the stand up pouch also has another advantage: large capacity.

Due to the support at the bottom, the side of the upright pouch is elliptical, and the total volume is much larger than that of a regular three-sided sealed bag. So we need to determine the size of the bottom based on the shape and weight of the product.

The larger the bottom, the more products can be loaded, but there is a limit to the size of the bottom of a stand up bag, and experiments need to be conducted based on the width of the front to ensure that the appearance of the bag is not affected.

Step 3: How to Insert the Bottom

The first method is to use integral insertion.

In the printing process, the front and back sides are printed together with the bottom of the bag. During the bag-making process, an insertion roller is used for shaping, and two circular holes are punched in the bottom bonding part. After folding, the holes have a heat-sealing effect inside, and after passing through the hot mold, the bottom of both sides of the bag can be tightly bonded together.

Another way is to use supplementary insertion.

When printing, the front and back of the bag are printed separately, and a set of copper plates is made at the bottom for additional printing. Then use an insertion machine on the bag-making machine to punch holes at the bottom of the bag, fold it into the space between the front and back sides, and heat it with a hot mold to bond the front and back sides to the bottom.

When to use what

If the bag is too large or the size of the bag-making machine is too small, then supplementary insertion must be used.

If there is a color difference between the front and back designs of the bag and the bottom, in order to prevent the bottom color from being exposed on the front, additional insertion is required.

If there are too many colors in the bag, the printing machine cannot print it at once, and can only print the front and back separately from the bottom, and then use a supplementary insertion method.

After determining the above three elements, we can start making a self-supporting bag!
